“It’s been terrible”: Bride & Prejudice star speaks publicly about false death claims

Former Bride & Prejudice star Dannii Erskine who was reported to have “died” in a “horrible tragedy” before being found alive has given her first TV interview.

So Dramatic first reported that the reality star had passed away on April 29 after a horrific car crash in North Melbourne.

Erskine, who rose to fame in the “forbidden wedding” series in 2019 alongside her then-finance Denton, spoke to Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Kochie about how the claims of her death were made after her Instagram account “was hacked”.

A statement posted to Erskine’s Instagram page at the time appeared to confirm her death.

“Rest in peace Dannii Erskine, 1995-2023,” it read.

“We appreciate and respect wishes we have received as a family,” the caption continued, after describing her death as being the result of an “awful accident”.

“Thank you for your support and respect."

But just days after the post appeared on Erskine’s profile, the reality star issued a statement confirming she was alive, and that she had been in hospital getting an “ankle reconstruction” for injuries sustained in a car accident on September 17 2022.

Erskine told Sunrise she was “shocked” and “disgusted” by what had happened.

“I’ve been under a lot of stress. I was told to essentially switch off from it all and focus on recovery and it’s been extremely hard to do that when this is all been happening,” she told the hosts.

“I’m quite shocked with what’s happened. I’m quite disgusted.

“It just makes me feel sick because, as we all know, people lose their lives every day. It’s just one of those things that really makes you sick to the stomach.”

In a new turn of events, Erskine claimed a “well-known stalker of hers” was behind the bizarre claims, however, she added she couldn’t “confirm any sort of names”.

“Unfortunately, I thought things had passed but clearly they haven’t passed.

“So it is being investigated and hopefully justice will come soon and someone will be charged for this,” she said.

The TV star revealed she had “the same password for over 15 years, so it could be anybody that knows me”.

“Let’s just say that my password wasn’t very difficult to use,” she said.

“I have actually spoken to an IT tech company and they said it’s actually extremely easy to hack into Instagram and social media platforms these days.

“My poor family, they were inundated with absolutely so many phone calls… “ Erskine added.

“At that time they confirmed that it was completely untrue but in saying that still, they shouldn’t have had to go through this.

“This whole experience has been awful, it’s been terrible.”

“Why our union abandons us”: Actress Shannen Doherty publicly shames actor’s union

Actress Shannen Doherty has put all cards on the table during her battle with breast cancer.

The Beverly Hills 90210 star, 51, is undergoing treatment for stage IV breast cancer and took to Instagram to reveal she is struggling to source health insurance coverage as she’s unable to work.

Doherty publicly shaded the actor’s union SAG-AFTRA and its president, The Nanny alum Fran Drescher, saying she has been “abandoned”.

"@officialfrandrescher I'm curious for people like me who have worked since they were 10 and paid dues to @sagaftra how when we aren't able to work for health reasons why our union abandons us," she captioned her post.

"I think we can do better for all our members and I think you're the person to do it. Health insurance shouldn't be based on annual income. It's a lifetime contribution.”

"And for me and many others, we have paid a lifetime of dues to only be cancelled because we don't meet your current criteria. Not ok:, she added.

The actress who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, posted a selfie from hospital while she received IV treatment.”

Drescher was elected president of SAG-AFTRA in 2021 and gave an inspired speech about the union during the 2023 Screen Actors Guild awards.

The union stands for the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. It represents all media performers, including actors, singers, models and journalist, and provides support such as health and pension benefits.

Drescher nor SAG-AFTRA have publicly addressed Doherty’s claims on her Instagram post but several of her Hollywood friends showed their support in the comments.

"Too many of my friends have gone through this – it makes no sense. @sagaftra must do better!!" actress Busy Philipps commented.

"The union is so tough on actors even considering working outside of it, but then completely abandons people when they need the union the most," actor Brian Austin Green wrote.

"This isn't about bad mouthing for me. It's about raising awareness, helping create a conversation and hopefully reaching an end goal of change.”

In 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her cancer then returned as Stage IV in 2020, three years after going into remission.

"It's going to come out in a matter of days or a week that — I'm stage IV. So, my cancer came back. And that's why I'm here,” she told Good Morning America. "I don't think I've processed it. It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways."

Doherty has taken on a small number of roles in TV since her diagnosis, most notably in 2019 for the BH 90210 reprisal.

Hillcrest survivor speaks publicly for first time

A survivor of the tragic jumping castle tragedy that shook the town of Devonport, Tasmania last week has spoken publicly for the first time since the ordeal.

12-year-old Beau Medcraft broke both of his arms and shattered his wrist when a gust of wind sent the jumping castle he was on 10 metres into the air at end of year celebrations at Hillcrest Primary School. He was one of nine students injured in the accident, while six of his friends tragically died. Two children remain in hospital.

In a video sent to country-rock musician Casey Barnes, Beau expressed his gratitude to the community for their messages of support. Sitting on a couch, with both arms in plaster, his right arm in a sling, and wearing Casey Barnes merch, Beau said, “Thanks for all the support and all the awesome people that commented.

"I watched your video again and thought it was very nice.”

Beau's dad also commented on the post, writing, "From beaus parents Hello to each and everyone thank you, your awesome an your comments are being heard and lifting his spirit as Beau reads through the comments and tells me who says this or says that with the biggest smile 😊 so from both me and his mum I wanted to say thank you for your kind heartfelt messages and words of encouragement to our boy Beau ❤️"

Commenters were quick to send Beau well wishes, with one person writing, “I know it's hard right now but things will get better,” and another commenting, “Love and a million wishes for a speedy recovery Beau. All of Tassie is behind you.”

Barnes grew up in Tasmania and went to college in Devonport, and promised to organise “something special” for Beau and his family in the new year.

Beau’s video comes as the fundraiser for families affected by the tragedy cracks the $1.4 million mark. The GoFundMe page will soon be shut down, as the money is rolled into a new public fund that will be coordinated by Devonport Council and the Tasmanian government, in order to ensure transparency.

At a council meeting on Monday, Devonport councillor Alison Jarmin said, “I know there’s some angst about what is going to happen to these funds and how they are going to be administered.

“We going to be making sure it goes to the right places and goes to the families and doesn’t get lost in governance and bureaucracy.”

Devonport local and creator of the GoFundMe, Zoe Smith, said she was in awe at people’s generosity, telling reporters over the weekend, "It's just beyond anything we could have thought possible.

“People should just be so proud of themselves and the amount that they have donated. It's incredible.”

Image: Facebook

He was so calm.

"If you had a problem he would think about it and that's the great thing I always think about, he was always somebody you could go to and he would always listen, so it's a great loss.

"I think the way I would put it is we have almost lost the grandfather of the nation and I feel very sorry and supportive of my mother who is feeling it, probably more than everybody else."

When most people first see their partner get down on one knee and present them with an engagement ring, they are too focused on the love of their relationship to think of any trivial matters.

However, one woman has criticised her engagement ring and slammed it as “basic”, before her boyfriend even had the chance to ask the question.

The woman stumbled across the ring at home, which was hidden in her boyfriend’s night stand.

Posting the photo of the ring on social media, the woman wrote: “Ewwwww. Self shame Friday here I come. Found this in the BF's nightstand. Not a fan.”

“Please roast and then tell me how to tactfully say no you need to go get something different,” she added.

A screenshot of the woman’s post was then shared on Reddit, where the woman quickly received backlash for being superficial.

Some commented that it was awful that she was slamming the ring and that they couldn’t see an issue with it.

“This is a gorgeous ring. I would love to be presented with this but, to be honest, my husband could propose to me with a twist-tie from a loaf of bread and I would be perfectly content," one person said.

Many believed it was possible that the ring was a family heirloom, making her remarks even more insensitive.

“Not going to lie this is bringing tears to my eyes. Poor sweet man. I hope he doesn't go through with it. I would have been happy with a ring pop from my husband!”

Another added: “I hope he sees this, and then RUNS. To post this degrading sh** to social media to first insult it, and then ask for ways to get something better from someone she loves just defies what this ring should really be about and proves she doesn't even deserve a ring out of a dollar vending machine.”

The post even prompted some to share their own engagement stories that may seem less than ideal but were perfect for them.

“I was broke… when I proposed and bought an $80 ring at a flea market, she was thrilled, that's a keeper,” one person said.

Another penned: “I was unemployed when we decided to get engaged. She bought the rings. Definitely not what we had planned, but 10 years later and I'm okay with it.”

What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.

The Block's Scott Cam publicly apologises to judge Shaynna Blaze: "I'm an idiot"

The Block host Scott Cam has issued a grovelling public apology, after the television host’s “disrespectful” gaffe aired on the popular Channel Nine show.

The incident in question saw Cam call one of the show’s judges, interior design guru Shaynna Blaze, the b-word when revealing her scores for the contestant’s front yards.

Cam reportedly wrote the scores down on the board, before looking at the group and saying, “Some high scores and some low scores. And that Shaynna’s a b***h, isn’t she?”

Blaze was not present during the scene.

Cam’s use of the word has left many people on social media fuming, and the Gold Logie-winner has been apologising profusely in appearances on breakfast radio this morning.

“Look, obviously I said that in complete jest, and I’ve said it to get a rise out of the contestants,” he told Hit105’s Stav, Abby and Matt with Osher.

“It was poor judgment on my part, and I’ve rung Shaynna and apologised. We’re fantastic friends and we’ve worked together for a lot of years. She’s incredible — she’s a great designer, she’s a great person, she’s a great judge. She’s certainly not ‘that’.

“I did it in total jest, and it was just poor judgment. I’ve apologised — it was disrespectful, there was no doubt about that. Sometimes I’m an idiot,” he continued.

Cam also appeared on Fitzy and Wippa’s Nova 969 morning show, telling the hosts: “Sometimes I’m an idiot. It was disrespectful... I shouldn’t have done it.”

The 13th season of The Block will finish this Sunday.

What’s your take?
